Seminar - Getting on Top of Two Troublesome Issues - Waikato

Date: Tuesday, 10th April 2018
Time: 10 am for a cuppa, main programme 10.30 am - 2 pm
Location: Silver Fern Farms Event Centre, Stanley Avenue, Te Aroha

Some problems are particularly difficult to get a handle on. Lameness and mastitis are certainly in this category. Even if these problems are not a big issue on your farm you can still learn new strategies to prevent them cropping up in the future. This day will cover:

Lameness – from top to bottom

Lameness is a complex problem with many contributing factors. Neil Chesterton, lameness expert, will explain how to tackle lameness, and identify and manage the risks, which include infrastructure and stock management factors. His lively presentation looks at the issue from multiple angles, and even the most experienced farmers will learn something new.

Mastitis – a fresh perspective

Emma Franklin, Anexa, who has particular interests in milk quality and minimising the impact of antimicrobial resistance, will take a fresh look at mastitis. She will help you to interpret your mastitis and milk quality indices so that you can take a proactive approach to preventing new infections, rather than just battling existing ones, and she will also discuss drying off strategies.

Free event, all welcome. Morning tea and lunch provided.
