The importance of rigorous biosecurity procedures has been highlighted by M. bovis, but there are other biosecurity threats we need to keep in mind too. We also need to put procedures in place to prevent thefts. This day will cover the security threats to our businesses, and the actions we can take to protect ourselves.

Biosecurity best practice

There is a lot of uncertainty about the measures needed to protect businesses from biosecurity threats:
DairyNZ will take you through the biosecurity practices you can implement on your farm.
Katrina Daysh, OSPRI, will outline how to manage your NAIT and TBfree obligations.

Farm security

On average there are about 54,000 reported burglaries in New Zealand every year. Rural crime is on the rise and prevention is the best policy. Although your insurer can cover the financial loss, they can’t help with the emotional effects. The most common items stolen from farms include: tools, fuel, compressors, welders, grinders, and farm bikes.
NZ Police and Rob Going, FMG, will talk about what you can do to protect your family, community, and property from crime.
James McDonald, Leamy CCTV, will talk about security systems.

Free event, all welcome. Morning tea and lunch provided.
