Field day - Autumn Management - Waikato

Date: Tuesday, 13th March 2018
Time: 10 am for a cuppa, main programme 10.30 am - 1 pm, lunch 1-2 pm
Location: Hamish and Lisa Lile, 85 Peacock Rd, Otorohanga

The run down to drying off is upon us and there are many crucial decisions to make to ensure we are well set up for winter and next season. This day will cover:

Best practice soil management for new pasture

Murray Lane, Ballance Agri-Nutrients, is a passionate advocate for looking after your soil to support persistent pasture. He will discuss:
• how to manage your soils and their fertility to ensure your pasture gets a good start and lasts the distance e.g. what is the best tillage method?

Weed control, now and later

Paul Addison, Nufarm, will talk about:
• new grass management,
• winter spraying versus targeting specific weeds at other times, and
• weed control post-cropping and planning ahead for your next crops.

Animal health in autumn

Rachel Numan, Vetora, will take us through the animal health issues of note in the run down to drying off including:
• dry cow therapy and teat sealants,
• monitoring mineral levels, the use of blood tests or liver biopsies,
• body condition scoring, and
• nitrate levels in new pasture.

Free event, all welcome. Morning tea and lunch provided.
